Highlighting text and typing doesn't overwrite text

I have Word for iPad that I have been using to edit document for several months. I have recently updated both my iOS and Word and now I'm having a problem. When I want to replace text, I usually highlight the words I'm getting rid of and type in my new text, but now it just unhighlights the word and inserts the new text at the end of wherever I highlighted. This function used to work fine and it has always worked on my Windows computer. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a fix? It's quite annoying and results in many unexpected errors.

In desktop Word, this behavior is determined by an Options setting: File | Options | Advanced: Editing options : "Typing replaces selected text." If there is a similar setting available in Word for iPad, that's what you need.
