Mail Merge Problems

Hi there

Having trouble with mail merge.

Am doing some name cards for an upcoming event with a pretty long attendance list (done in excel).

I have 4 place cards per sheet &  I am only wanting there first name.

The problems is that when I finish & merge the same name is popping up on all 4 cards instead of 4 names per sheet.

I have tried put "next record" before each "first name" except the first one. It comes up with the following message "You can not include DATA, NEXT, NEXTIF, or SKIPIF fields in comments, headers, footers, footnotes or endnotes."

What am I doing wrong?

If you want to send me a copy of the mail merge main document, I will investigate the issue.

Even with a template (presumably set up as a table), you should still be using a label-type merge.

No I'm not doing a label. I have used a name plate template from the online Office templates.

Assuming you're doing a label merge, all you should need to do is to click on the 'Update Labels' button. You should then be able to run your merge and get a new record on each label.
