Cannot edit hyperlinks in Excel

I have a spreadsheet with hyperlinks. I have used this for years. I am supposed to right click on the cell and edit tyhe hyperlink if need be. It still worked last night. Now suddenly when I right-click all of the hyperlink options have disappeared....

The hyperlnk itself still works, no problem there but happened to the options I previoulsy had?

Or did MS once again fix something that did not need fixing?

Can anyone share the solution for this issue?

We have run across this problem, and have done the following:

    • Launched Excel in Safe Mode.
    • Performed a complete, Online Repair of the Office 2016 installation.

The options to edit the hyperlink when right clicking on it within the cell are gone, do not appear.

How can these settings be restored?

    It's happened again...

No Hyperlink options in right-click menu

Why do they come and go? Surely MS must be able to simply explain what I may be doing wrong - and then right again as at some time later they will probably be back - without my deliberate doing......

    Hello Elardus,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

To resolve the issue let us know the following:

    1. Are the options to Edit, Open and Remove hyperlink from the right-click menu completely missing when your Excel spreadsheets?
    2. Do you have other options when you right-click on the hyperlinks? For example, copy, paste, paste special, insert, delete etc.?
    3. Is this issue happening with one Excel spreadsheet or all Excel spreadsheets?

In the meantime, you may try the following step:

Try opening Excel in the Safe Mode and check if the Hyperlink options on right-click work.

Follow the steps as suggested in the following Microsoft Article to open Excel 2013/2016 in the Safe Mode.

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspx

Note: The above article lists steps for all Microsoft Office 2013 and Office 2016 applications, however, follow the steps to open the application/program in the Safe Mode for which you are experiencing an issue – in your case Excel 2013/Excel 2016.

The above step opens Excel in the Safe Mode.

Now, check if you are able to resolve the issue or if the issue still persists. If the issue resolves in the Safe Mode, then follow the steps detailed in the same Microsoft Article mentioned above to troubleshoot Add-Ins in the application.

    Hope the above information helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi Mohan

Thanks for the reply. In the meantime, the hyperlinks options re-appeared after a few hours - without me having done anything to make that happen.

Regardless, I'll stil share what I know:

    1. The option was not missing on all spreadsheets at the time. It was missing on the one (which happens to be one that I have an opening password on).

At the time, I captured the right-click menus of another spreadsheet as well as the offending one as shown below:

So the two menus were quite different at the time, but as I said, later when I had saved and opened the file again, the no-hyperlink menu just came right again....... It is still OK after about eight hours later.

Both files reside on my laptop in the 'OneDrive' section. Could it have been a syncing issue?
