Excel 2016 Mac Cursor not changing

Hello,

Having search multiple post I found very little to to this specific problem or no real solutions yet.

When using Excel 2016 15.20 on Mac with El Capitan 10.11.4, I get my cursor not updating to the right status after using a graph or any shape with insert (hand, arrow, crosshair, etc).

What happens is just after using a graph, the cursor does not change according to the cell I am on and is like confused as to what status it should change.

I can reproduce it 100% of time.

I also tried on my wife's Mac and got this problem also.

Both computer had office 2011 installed on them before, but not sure this could be the problem.

I tried clearing part of the caches in the library folder (related to Microsoft), and already reinstalled it twice with proper uninstall recommended on Microsoft Website.

With or without updating Excel has the same problem, (Word or Powerpoint works fine btw).

I also created a new user specifically to test but with no success.

But I noticed this problem doesn't happen in safe mode, but it feels like there's is no graphic acceleration in this mode.

I am not sure what I could do next if it's a bug with 3rd party softwares, or a bug in Excel.

Here is a video of the behaviour (+/- 10mb):

Any suggestion (except reinstall OSX) would be greatly appreciated.

Have a nice day,

Ludovic

It appears that Microsoft fixed this issue sometime between April 2016 and today. I just tested and the cursor behaves as expected.

Go to the Excel menu and choose About Excel and see what version you have. It should be 15.37 or higher. If you're not up to date, then please follow these instructions, then test again and reply with the results.

Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection before checking for updates. Install Mac OS X updates followed by Office updates.

Install Mac OS X updates first:

To get Mac OS updates, go to the App store on your dock, and then click the Updates button to reveal available updates.

    Then Install Office Updates

    To get the update:

    1. Open any Office application:
    2. Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection
    3. Go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates
    4. Let AutoUpdate check for and install updates
    5. Restart your Mac

Is this bug fixed yet?   Doesn't look like it, I have the exact same issue and have an up to date version as of Aug 2017.  It is making excel completely unusable.  Also when you switch back and forth between figures and data selection it either stops working all-together or the cursor does not succeed in moving the colored selection box.

    Hi

I deleted Joe's answer because he pointed you to the feature suggestion forum.

What you are experiencing is a bug. I see the same thing, but the cursor eventually recovers. Instead of going to the feature request forum, report this problem as a bug to Microsoft.

To report a bug, click the Smile button in Excel's window and choose send a frown. Describe the problem as you have done here.
