All --

I reported this problem to my contacts at Microsoft, and they found out what you are experiencing is a bug due to the "presence" indicator that comes through Outlook and Skype for Business.  The bug is now slated for fixing, but there is no timeline on when the bug fix will be released.  In the meantime, please try the following in Microsoft Project 2016 to disable the "presence" indicator for resources:

  1. Click File > Options > Display.
  2. DESELECT the "Online status next to name" checkbox.
  3. Click the OK button.

Does this help?  Please let us know.

Repair is done in the windows control panel -> Programs.

Select the Project 2016 installation and click change - then select repair in the dialog.

I am on Windows 10.   How would you repair the installation ? Reinstall ?

Obviously that shouldn't happen. All I can think of is to try repairing the Project 2016 installation. Hopefully that will do it.

Failing that, which version of Windows and what service pack are you on for it?
