There is a solid dividing line between two paragraphs. I want to remove it, but every time I delete it just keeps coming back.

If it's a border, you can deal with it as described in http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/TroublesomeLines.htm#Borders.
Another possibility is that is the "text boundary" line between paragraphs. Go to File | Options | Advanced: Show document content and clear the check box (if checked) for "Show text boundaries."
Can you show us a screen shot of it?
Perhaps it's a paragraph border? Access the Borders and Shading dialog via the borders dropdown in the Paragraph section of the Home tab of the ribbon.
