Layout changes when changing from edit to view mode and vice versa Word Online

Hello,

We recently switched from the regular office applications to office 365 using word online. When editting documents using word online the layout seems to change when switching from edit mode to view mode and vice versa. I'm kinda neat when it comes to layout and this is very annoying as it is near to impossible to create nice looking documents this way. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

    Hi,

First of all, thanks for your response!

This is what I mean by changing lay-out. The upper image shows a part of a table in my document in the view mode. When I change to the edit mode my table looks like the lower image.  Somehow either the width of the cells change or the size of the text. As you might imagine this is quite annoying when adding new people to this list.

One thing you might recommend me is to start using excel for my tables, which is what I would prefer however company policy dictates I have to use word.

I hope there is a way to fix this problem.

    Joris

    Hi Joris,

Thank you for your feedback with more details!

It would be helpful if we can know more about this issue. Is this original document created in word application and then uploaded to word online or created in word online directly? Could you check by using open in word (just behind tell me) button in word online editing mode to see if the layout is also incorrect in word application?

If the document is created and edited directly in word online, the layout should be the same in viewer and editor. However, just like Samuel responded, there exists minor difference in viewer and editor. For example, font may not be that clear in viewer.

If the document is edited in word application somehow, this issue may be caused by certain feature which is available in word application but hasn't been added to word online.

Please let us know your result and so that we can help to look deeper into it.
