I have a problem where Excel selects the wrong cell when I click on it. You can see it in this video;

I can resolve the problem sometimes by changing the zoom using the + and -.

Any thoughts how I can plain stop this from happening?

    Context to issue:

    This only happens in Excel 2016. I have no issues whatsoever in any other software on the device. It happens with a Bluetooth mouse too.

    It started happening when I upgraded from 2013.

    I will try to reinstall the driver next.

    You have not indicated if this is a problem that has just started or always been there. Anyway, some other things you might try.

    Disconnect the keyboard and re-connect. I occasionally have a problem with the keyboard on my Surface Pro 1 (not the same problem you are having but the keyboard becomes unresponsive) and this fixes the problem.

    I understand that there is a separate battery in the keyboard. Does the problem occur when the power is connected or when you are running on battery. If only when on battery then close the computer down and leave it connected for a couple of hours to power to completely charge batteries.

    Type Device Manager in the search field and select Device Manager when it displays in the popup. Expand Keyboards and Double click the appropriate keyboard. Select Driver tab and Uninstall the driver (When you get a prompt to delete the software then delete it so it is forced to download new software to re-install). Restart the computer and use the On screen/touch keyboard when required and it should re-install the keyboard driver. If you get a prompt to search the web for the software then accept it. If it does not automatically re-install the driver than type Windows Update in the search field and select it and manually perform a windows update and it should install.

    You can get a USB wired mouse quite cheap so if none of the above fixes the problem then I suggest you get one and test and at least you will know if it is the Keyboard touch pad that is the problem. Personally I have  Logitech Bluetooth mouse with my Surface and it works well.

    I don't have another mouse. This was done with the track pad on my surface 3 keyboard.  Arrow keys work as expected.  It is just selecting with the mouse pointer which is the problem.

    Have you tried a different mouse? Also try using the arrow keys to change cells and see what occurs.
