Offline Database Shared on Network

Hello,

I have a database that was designed initially for offline use,  but now I need to share it with around 6-8 people total. The database is split into a frontend and backend right now. I would like for multiple user access since there is inventory that is being held in the database.

What are my possible options?

I was looking into a VPS, but I have never used one before so I am not sure if it is capable of doing what I need.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe you can Map a drive that you are connecting to using RDC.

I'm also not familiar with Hostwinds but I also am not sure that you can map to a cloud based server either.

I'll check those out and see if they will work better for me.

I was using a VPS (https://www.hostwinds.com/budget.php). I think there is a connection issue between my computer and the VPS, but I was setting up a shared folder via remote desktop connection. Then I was going to Map a Network Drive using that server address and shared folder. That way I could have multiple users accessing the same drive and file at the same time.

You mean a VPN? That's not going to work well.

The alternatives I can suggest are to use Terminal Services (like Citrix) or use Remote access like TeamViewer.

They will not be on the same LAN. I was trying to use a VPS and share a folder on there so I could map a network drive for everyone, but I am not having success with it so far. Any other solutions or services?

You left out the most important piece of information. Where are these 6-8 users located? Are they in an office with access to an office LAN? If so, then its easy. You put the back end on a network share, link the front end to that backend and install the FE on each individual's PC.

If they are not on the same LAN, then there are other alternatives and we need to know more to advise.
