Cursor not working with arrows.

While working in word, I cannot get my cursor to  move from word to word using the Cntl arrow keys (up, down, right or left).  This makes it difficult when I am editing whereas I have to go letter by letter, instead of moving word by word.  I have found this is the same on three keyboards I have tried it with.  My keyboard connections are all seated right.  I have browsed through settings and I don't see anything that could be affecting cursor movement.  The arrow keys also only go letter by letter if I use the Shft arrow keys to highlight.  I am pretty sure both these options, the cursor should be able to move word by word.  Am I missing a setting?

Actually I tried your above suggestions, and I thought I had it fixed, but the next time I went to use Word, I was back in the same situation.  On further and further digging, I thought I would check into the "Smart Cursor" option and I went into options and unchecked that and it is FINALLY working right.  I typed a 17 page document and it went very smoothly.  I even typed a small sample doc this morning to make sure I was not dreaming and it works...STILL!

I  tried the File>Options>Customize Ribbon and then click on Keyboard shortcuts suggestion and this did not work either, I am still with a cursor that will not jump to the next word or the previous word without going letter to letter.  The control arrow combination is still not working.  I am going to go crazy!

    How strange!

For what it is worth, on my system (Office 2013 on Windows 10), Ctrl+left arrow (or Ctrl+right arrow) works properly even if "Smart cursoring" is selected.

If you start Word in Safe Mode by holding down the CTRL key while starting it until asked to confirm that you want to start it in that mode, does CTRL+arrow keys then work?   If so, it would indicate that there is an Add-in on your system that has hijacked those commands.

Or, go to File>Options>Customize Ribbon and then click on Keyboard shortcuts: Customize and click on Reset All.
