Cannot remove a user from sharing a OneNote notebook

I've shared a notebook with a number of people using the "Invite People" feature. I needed to remove access for several people, so I've been right-clicking users the notebook is shared with and clicking the "Remove User" option to remove them. However, for a couple of people I'm getting the following error (using the desktop version of OneNote 2016 on a Windows 7 machine):

The server couldn't complete this action. Error Code: 0x88ffc00f

I get the same error if I use the option "Change permission to: Can View".

I tried the same thing on a Windows 8.1 machine, and OneNote crashed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi - I can confirm that removing the user(s) within OneNote online works ok.  However, it should work in the Office 2013/2016 thick client as well.  I have the same issue as Glen Boese reports, and MS ref 617090491264205 has been raised for an answer.
