Split from this thread.

I have this problem also! It is very random:

  1. I save as pdf (stopped printing directly to save paper), and the comments are there.
  2. I detect a  typo which I correct.
  3. I save as pdf, and the comments are not there.

There is like 15 minutes between step 1 and 3.

Is there someone taking responsibility at MS for these kind of issues? This is clearly a BUG.

I have been having this issue and finally figured it out.

    • Go to the REVIEW tab and click the down arrow on Show Markup, found on the Tracking section.
    • There are check marks next to a number of items:
      • Comments, Ink, Insertions and Deletions, Formatting
    • Click each of those, one at a time (because the drop down collapses when you click it).
      • See the check marks disappear!
    • LEAVE A CHECK MARK next to COMMENTS.

Check your print preview. You may now dance with joy.

Word 2013 is a bit different from older versions when it comes to displaying markup. Try switching from "Simple Markup" to "All Markup" on the Display for Review drop down.

By default, Word should print markup, though. This hasn't changed since several versions back.

I too use this function all the time, and am very dependant on it in my work.

I have tried saving as pdf and printing with Cute pdf. I have aslo tried renaming the document. As I wrote in the last post, the same document behaves randomly different. My collegues have the same problem. The comments (baloons) are visible in the print preview, but gone in the actual printed hard copy. How can that be a format or other setting error?

I use the comment function all the time to give feedback on my students' texts, and I've never seen the comments disappear. How are you saving as PDF? Using Word's built-in Save As command? Some other method?

Also, make sure that comment text hasn't inadvertently been formatted as hidden.
