I have an issue with quick parts where by it is losing the fonts size, and on occasion the paragraph brakes. This happes intermitently so it is hard to find the exact problem,

This is the process is follow to save the quick part.

  1. Type the block of text i wish to save with the correct font, font size and line breaks etc.
  2. hilight the text. Insert> Quick Parts > Save selection to quick Part gallery
  3. Change the save in Option to Normal ( this is for the purpose that the quick parts are saved in the normal.dotx template and it can be copied to multiple machines) Select the option Insert Content in its own paragrah.

This issue happens on the original machine the Quick Part was created on and also other machines all with the latest version of office installed and all the updates for both office and the OS

It certainly sounds as if you are attempting to save AutoText.

Again, this should be saved in a separate global template, not the normal template for sharing. You can pick your gallery (you have picked QuickParts for some reason), you can and should assign a unique meaningful name to the entry. You can assign a category.

In the screenshot above you can see that you can choose to save your entry in any loaded global template, not just normal.dotm.

As John said, if your styles are different in the document from which you are saving the entry, the formatting will be different when it is inserted. This is by design and is good. It is how Styles are supposed to work with particular formatting being uniform in a document for text fulfilling a given purpose. If you want peculiar formatting, do not format your original text in any of the built-in styles but rather in a custom style. (I do not recommend this; I predict it will cause you problems, but it is the ornly way I would use preserve formatting of text. (A part of this is that I only use Styles for formatting of templates.)

*** are saved in the normal.dotx template and it can be copied to multiple machines***

You should NOT be copying the normal.dotm template to multiple machines. This is not the way to share customizations. For AutoText (Quickparts) you should be saving to a separate template which can be used as a Global Template by putting it in the Word Startup Folder on each machine.

The normal template is not designed or intended to be shared.

If you are created the Quick Part in a document that is not based on Normal.dotm, the formatting could easily change when saved into the Normal template.
