Incompatible application

I have not had any previous problems with my Microsoft office 2013  since I purchased it. Now I can't open word documents because it states it is incompatible please help.

Hello Cristal,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

In order to resolve the issue we need more information. Let us know the complete error message/code that you get while opening Word documents.

In the meantime you may try the following step:

  1. In Word 2013 click on the File tab > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
  2. Click on Protected View in the left panel.
  3. Make sure to uncheck (un-tick) all the 3 options.
  4. Save the changes made by clicking on OK.
  5. Close and reopen Word 2013.

Check if you are now able to open Word documents normally from within Word 2013 (Click on File tab > Open and try opening your Word document/s).  Also try opening Word documents directly from their location.
