PowerPoint 2016 Crash while using SmartArt component

Windows 10 running on Dell XPS 13.

PowerPoint is crashing all the time as soon I pick a smartart drawing which have bullets and subullets and trying to add/remove these bullets/subbullets. I had to revert to a very basic presentation just to get it going.

Any ideas?

In addition to the other suggestions, it's worth checking to see if there's an updated video driver available.  I had an issue recently where 2016 would crash every time I tried to apply certain transitions to a slide.

Updating the video driver fixed it.

It sounds like your Office installation may need repair:

  1. In Windows, click on the Start button, then on Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
  3. Right-click on Microsoft Office 2016 and choose Change.
  4. Choose Online Repair (it's more effective than Online Repair), then click on the Repair button.
  5. Allow the process to complete, restart Windows, then retest PowerPoint with SmartArt.

Tried in Word and same issue, no error message but application shuts down and startup again. I found that the attached SmartArt shows this behavior consistently.
