On the latest Mac Word 2016 version 15.20 no matter what I do to the toggle nonprinting characters on or off they are still displayed when on screen no matter what I do. Is this a bug as it worked ok before I updated to 15.20 or can I reset it somehow?

Go to Word> Preferences - View, clear all of the checks for Nonprinting characters. For some reason it appears that the update checks them all which causes them to display persistently.
