I've read the msgs and cannot find an answer to this...

I'm using OneNote - Office 16 on a PC using MS Office 365 ProPlus (not on PC web), I have one Notebook that I was able to share successfully. I created a new one, tried to share then got the msg:  "The server couldn't complete this action. Error Code: 0x88ffc008"

I tried:

  1. Switching to another Notebook, then switching back to try to share: Fail
  2. Closing OneNote and re-opening: Fail
  3. Restart PC, re-open OneNote: Fail
  4. Create a new Notebook and try to share it: Fail
  5. Try to share a notebook that already existed: Fail
  6. Opened Excel and tried to share a file: Success
  7. Ran Quick Repair on MS Office: Fail
  8. Restart PC try to share Notebook: Fail; new Notebook: Fail; original Notebook: Success
  9. Ran Online Repair on MS Office, it re-installed Office: Fail

So that's where I'm at.  Please help. Thank you

I'm still having this problem.  It apparently is some bug that was introduced into 1N.  Is there any hope of getting it resolved?

I was having the same error and nothing seems to correct it.

Today I'm having a slow day at work and started playing around. I noticed all the files that i could NOT share was actually stored in a a folder labeled Documents2 on my OneDrive. All the files that were sharing correctly was stored in the folder Documents on the OneDrive.

So i moved them from the Documents2 folder to the Documents. I then deleted the folders in my wife's OneNote and then sent her new share links. Now everything is working fine.

I'm not sure how the Documents2 folder was created and I don't understand why that would matter? I would think the software would be smart enough to handle a different location without throwing up the error code. So that makes me wonder if I can only share files that are in the Documents folder. I have run out of time to play around with it, but maybe this will give you some hope.

Hello, here is a screen print of the locations.  Thank you for helping.

FYI, I went onto OneNote in the Cloud and I believe I was able to share the Notebook, but still showing an error that I cannot share or even view who it’s shared with on my MS Office version on the PC.

I was hoping it would be resolved after complete shutdown and starting fresh this morning, but no…

    Hi Karen,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I would like to know where the notebooks are stored/saved.

Where are you trying to open the notebook from?

Do come back with the required information and we would be glad to assist.

    Thank you.
