Excel for Mac 2016 Solver Issue: "Another Excel instance is using Solver. Try again later."

I am running Excel for Mac 2016. I am working on an optimization problem requiring the use of the Solver add-in. When I click "Solve" in the dialog box containing all my constraints, the error message appearing is: "Another Excel instance is using Solver. Try again later." No other excel workbook is open. Is it possible that Solver is running in the background? I have tried taking out the add-in and putting it back again; I have tried to reboot the computer... How do I solve this issue?

As per the description it seems the issue is related to the add-in since you have already tried removing and re-installing the add-in you can try to create a new user account and check if it works.

What is the version of Excel installed on the computer?

Install all the latest updates on the computer and verify.
