Still the same problem. But this conflict might occur in combination with multiple documents open in Adobe Reader (XI 10.0.15 MUI).
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
My hardware is a Dell Latitude E5550/i5 vPro with 4G internal memory. It came with Windows 7 and MS Office Home and Business 2013 OEM, current version 15.0.4779.1002.
Since the upgrade to Windows10 Excel shows a problem on indefinite moments. The GUI stops functioning. The buttons above the worksheets does not show any more, this area remains blanc. The worksheet does not respond to mouse clicks any more. No characters can be entered in cells.
However, hotkeys still can be used. If a hotkey activates a form, the form can be used without any limitation. Other applications inside and outside Office still remain fully functional.
The solution seems closing all Excel workbooks one by one using <ctrl-W>, than close Excel. Simple reopen Excel and the problem seems to be solved.
I have 5 to 10 different workbooks open in day to day use. Some days in a row Excel runs fine, other days the error occurs more than once.
Is this behaviour being recognized? Has anyone a solution or suggestion?

Today the error occurred again. Unfortunately no sufficient solution found so far.
Hello Vijay,
Step 1 has been checked an approved.
Step 2 has been performed by Windows Support/remote access, as I wrote.
Step 3 is interesting. It shows a number of folders with one or more files in it. Al files seem to be autosaved copies of one particular Excel workbook, the workbook which containes 1 mb of macros that I use every minute of the day. Copies go back to 10 months in time. And they are obviously not deleted after becoming obsolete.
By the way: the macro workbook is still in Excel 97-2003 format (.xls).
I delete all of it. Just the "\XLSTART" folder remains, but this folder is empty. Now I start working and expericence the results.
Thanks for your input.
Jille.
Try following (one by one and check the result after that step) -
Now open the file and see if the problem disappears or not.
Note - to find Excel path, you need to find XLSTART path. Excel folder contains XLSTART folder in itself (In case, your XLSTART path is not in Appdata)
Also upgrade all your Printer Drivers to latest from the internet.
To start Excel in Safe Mode -
Hold CTRL key and click on Excel icon
OR
In the Search Box above Windows icon, type "Excel /s" without quotes and enter.
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Protected View > Uncheck all options
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > File Block Settings > Uncheck all options

Right Click on this, Properties, In Compatibility tab, check ""Run this Program as an Administrator""
Start the Excel. You might again get the error. Close Excel and uncheck "Run this Program as an Administrator" and start Excel again. You should not get the error anymore.
(If folder path is not correct, you will have to find EXCEL.EXE manually, like Program Files (x86) may be Program Files. Or you can even search for EXCEL.EXE in your C: drive
Open Excel.
Click on file, Options.
Go to the Advanced tab.
Under the Display section, check the box for 'Disable hardware graphics acceleration'.
Click ok and restart Excel.
MS Support Chat has performed a repair action from the settings application. We will have to use Excel and experience if the error occurs again.
