I receive an Update Program message of "Error:  Could not find program settings ini file" every time I open Excel 2013.  I am able to click OK and resume Excel as normal each time.  How do I resolve this error message?

Thanks.

Hello Debbie,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

To resolve this issue you might try doing an Online Repair of Excel 2013/Office 2013. Follow these steps to perform an online repair of Office 2013:

  • If you are on Windows 10; Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 you may follow these steps: right-click on the Windows icon/logo (bottom left-corner) > Control Panel.
  • In case you are on Windows 7 then click on Start > Control Panel.
  • From Control Panel navigate to Programs and /or Programs and Features and right-click on your Office 2013 installation.
  • Click on Change and then select the Online Repair option.
  • This step would repair/reinstall Office 2013.
  • Once completed, make sure to restart the computer.

Check if the above step works and you are able to open Excel 2013 normally without experiencing the error.

Hope the above information helps.

Thank you.

Yes, it worked!  Thanks!  Please note that this fix requires entering your Office 2013 Product Key as proof of purchase.
