Paste Text Into Single Cell

Hello everyone,

This happens sporadically for no good reason:

I'm pasting single and multi-line text into a single cell, and it will NOT paste. It will paste into several rows, but I want it all in one cell.

The problem is, I'll be doing this process over and over in the same sheet then it suddenly won't paste.

When I restart Excel, and try to paste the same material into the same cell, it works.

It's really annoying and slows down my job to a sluggish pace.

Please let me know when this bug is fixed, or if there's some phantom change going on.

Thanks,

Kate

This is a user-to-user forum, so none of us can speak for Microsoft about when a fix will come along.

That said, the reports all seemed to involve Excel update 15.3.1 and that was a release from long ago. No one has said they have updated to the current version, which is 15.19.1.

So that we're all on the same page here, the first thing to do is install the recent updates. Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection, then:

Update Mac OS X. Open the App store and click on the Updates button. Install the updates.

After, in any Office application go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch the AutoUpdate app. Let AutoUpdate install updates.

Go to the Excel menu and choose About Excel and verify that you have version 15.19.1. After updating, please reply as to whether or not the problem continues to exist.

    Hi bin_asc,

I know. I have the latest update too 150807. Glad I'm not the only one. This needs to get fixed ASAP.

I am having the exact same issue, and I have the latest update.

Moreover, if I copy from Outlook 2016 to Excel, it will just not copy-paste some times.

It's possible the bug has already been fixed.

Go to the Excel menu and choose About Excel. Your version should be 15.13.1 (150807). If it is not, then go to the Excel Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch AutoUpdate app. Install the updates, restart your Mac, and then try again.

    Hello Kate,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

To resolve this issue we need more information. Let us know the following.

    1. Since when do you have this issue in Excel for Mac 2016? Has this issue been there since the time Office 2016 for Mac was installed?
    2. You have mentioned that it is sporadic, how often does this issue occur?
    3. Have you updated Office 2016 for Mac? If not, check and install all pending updates and see if the issue resolves.

Check the above and let us know.

    Thank you.
