Powerpoint 2010 presentation mode problem

I've been running powerpoint 2010 on Windows 10 just fine for several months, but starting a week ago I'm getting this slideshow mode problem (using 'extend' mode for display to a projector):

  • The presentation mode screen no longer appears (with the speaker notes on the right)
  • slides no longer advance using spacebar --in fact they don't advance at all unless I click on the left-side PPT taskbar tab
  • Using the left-side taskbar window to advance the slide on my laptop does not advance the slide showing on projector.

I can open up older (.ppt) files and get the correct presentation behavior but ALL .pptx files now fail to provide the correction presentation mode interaction/display.  It suggests some setting has been altered in my software but I cannot find any relevant setting amiss.

  Ideas? (thx)

There was a group of Office 2010 updates that came out on Feb. 9, 2016, which is about the right timing. Here's a page that gives you several options for rolling back updates: Uninstalling Outlook or Office updates

You can also try repairing your installation of Office:

  1. In Windows, click on the Start button, then on Control Panel.
  2. Choose Programs, then Programs and Features.
  3. Right-click on Microsoft Office 2010 and choose Change.
  4. Select the Repair option, then click on the Continue button.
  5. Allow the process to complete, restart your computer, then see if PowerPoint is working any better.
