Compatability Mode - WORD documents

I use WORD heavily.  I like and enjoy my "normal" page set up where I can see the spaces designated for headers / footers.

All of sudden, my "normal" page view was gone and ALL documents were being displayed in compatibility mode.

I read numerous posts concerning this issue; however, I haven't been able to resolve the problem.

I don't want my new/old docs opened in this mode.  Can this be fixed?  I am not "high tech" but I can follow directions.

I appreciate any help / assistance.

If you are saying that headers and footers are not shown in Print Layout view, that isn't compatibility mode; instead, you have the so-called white space between pages hidden. See http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/WhiteSpace.htm.

Go to File>Options>Display and check the box for "Show white space between pages in Print Layout view"

That will restore the view of the space reserved for the headers and footers, which is completely independent of the display of [Compatibility Mode] in the title of the document, which is an indication that the document was created from a template that was created in an earlier version of Word, or that the document has been saved in an earlier format.

It simply means that the doc was created in an earlier version of Word and as some features may not function
