Cannot Open Excel Files from Desktop

I have saw several questions similar to mine, but no solution.

I am using Outlook 2013 (part of Office 2013 Home and Small Business). I have excel shortcuts on my desktop, when I try to open a document, Excel opens and shows the ribbon, but thats it.  The document doesn't load. However, if I "Restore Down" the window, the document appears.  I then can maximize the window and continue working as normal.

Also, I can open the same files using the "Recent" files listed on the startup screen of Excel with no problem. (The files open correctly, maximized and all).

These files are stored on a network location and the computers are joined to a domain. So the files on the desktop are actually shortcuts to the networked files.  I can go to the network drive where the actual file is stored, and the files open correctly.

The computer is running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

This didn't start until I upgraded to Office 2013, before I was using office 2010.  I have uninstalled Office 2010 using Add / Remove Programs and I have used the "Quick Repair" and "Online Repair" on the Office 2013 version.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: I just noticed that I can open the document from the desktop (opens to a grey screen) and I can navigate to "View > Formula Bar" ... I can uncheck it, the document shows correctly, then check it back to use formulas and things work normally.

Phil0817, I added my network folder to the Trusted Locations along with checking the box, "Allow Trusted Locations on my network" and also allowed all sub folders.  But same results when trying to open an excel document.

Actually this morning I noticed that one of the documents I am trying to open is not a shortcut, its the actual file on the desktop which has the same behavior as mentioned above.

    Thanks for you quick response!

Try adding your network drive as a Trusted Location.

Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Trusted Locations
