"Offline Copy" Error - Couldn't contact the server

I have been getting this "Offline Copy" error in office documents. It says:

"We couldn't contact the server, so we opened an offline copy that was up to date as of m/d/yyyy hh:mm AM/PM.

We'll upload any saved changes when the server becomes available."

Its been many weeks and over the weeks I have tried:

  • unlinking and linking back the onedrive (starting fresh)
  • clearing upload center cache
  • clearing internet explorer cache
  • disabling "use office to work......" option
  • signed out from one of the account as there was two accounts logged in in the office products

None of those seems to do anything. I see those errors mostly when I open one of the files that I haven't opened for over a week or so (I saw one of the files showing an error with time stamp few hours from current time as well).

I have searching for solutions for long time without any success. I would appreciate if anyone have any clue on what's going on and how I can solve this issue. I am using windows 7 and office 2013.

I'm having this issue now in 2017 on Word 2016. Has anyone come up with a solution yet?

I create several documents each week that I use the old document, save as a new date and make the changes necessary for the week and save it to use the following week.  Often those documents are not saved, even though I am saving them to "this PC"

I also have a couple of documents dated 11-4-15 and 6-3-16 (date they were last saved) hung up in my Microsoft upload center saying "upload pending."

Same issue here. Except we've got Office 2013 Professional Plus and Windows 8.1 and this is happening to a newly sync'd OneDrive for Business library.
