    Hi there.

Unfortunately error codes do not always help as they are shared across systems and applications and does not always present the root cause.

however if onenote fails to open do this

    1. Repair Office
    2. Remove and reinstall OneNote app
    3. Upgrade for free to OneNote 2016 if nothing else works.

Repair office by going to control panel then find office in "add or remove programs" then click change and select repair

Remove the OneNote app by locating it and then longpress/rightclick and delete it.

upgrade free to OneNote 2016 here: http://onenote.com/download

Thanks but OneNote comes as a pre-installed app on Win 10. It cannot be removed (through control panel) . Any suggestion on how to uninstall this app?

I do not know if he did, but the onenote app has recieved updates. Going to the store and updating the app might have helped.

What could also help is to clean your onenote cache

I also had this problem on just one machine running Windows 10, which locked me out of OneNote and wouldn't load anything. I use a local account on this machine, and after an update, it became obvious that OneNote was failing as above.

If you go to settings,  apps & features, and find one note in the list of programs. Highlight it and you will see "advanced options". Click on that and choose the option to reset. This deletes all locally stored data files and login details. I'm assuming you have the data stored in OneDrive to restore them.

You then open One Note as you would normally, it asks you for the login details, and you give it the Microsoft account where you have your backups on OneDrive. The system will reload your back up from the cloud, and sign you in with your MS account. These credentials are then remembered for future use, so you can continue to sign in to the PC with a local account, and sign into OneNote with a MS account.

    Cheers

    RS
