ACTIVATING OFFICE

Anonymous
2015-04-29T11:29:25+00:00

I posted yesterday about Word 2013 crashing on Windows 7.

I got a reply suggesting I could get a repair done online by Microsoft so I followed the link, the repair process was initated and completed.

But now I cannot access Office at all as I keep getting a message saying I need to activate it. I cannot fulfill the requirements to do this as I do not

have the  email address originally associated with Office, and I cannot contact the person I bought my laptop from to see if he still has the original paperwork.

Why has the Microsoft repair created this situation and what can I do about it?

    This gets worse and worse!

I have followed exactly the instructions you sent.

As you can see from the screen shot, the words unlicensed product now appear, and the Product Notice now tells me most of the features have been disabled!

This clearly IS a licensed product. I have been using this laptop for some 4 or 5 months and have never had any problems accessing Office.

I note what you say about Office Repair not being responsible, but it's strange that this problem never occurred prior to using Office Repair

Office 2007 & 2010 are installed separately from 2013 (Whether trial or other)

Using the FixIt has no impact on 2013 installation files

A verification previously run has no impact on any later verification

Bottom line, unless you have access to the MS Account used in the 2013 installation, or have the physical proof of purchase (the receipt for Office) There's nothing you can do

If the product is unlicensed why would the earlier verifications not pick that up?

And since Mohan clearly understood the problem, why did he suggest using Fixit if it, as you suggest,

would have no impact on the problem?

    Hello Colin,

To understand your issue better let us know the edition of Office 2013 installed on your computer. You can check this in Programs and Features: Start > Control Panel > Programs and/or Programs and Features.

Also, send us a screenshot of the error message asking you to activate Office 2013.

To capture and send us a screenshot follow the step as shown in the following Microsoft link.

Check the above and send us the requested information.

    Thank you.

Don't know the answers to your questions about MS Office being installed from new or

    installed later.

All I know is that it is installed, and it was only after the Microsoft repair that the activation is needed.

Since it is clearly as a result of that repair that this situation has arisen, surely Microsoft must be to

    restore the activation somehow?

Was this laptop supplied by the PC maker with a fully functioning version of MS Office 2013 or did the previous owner purchase a version of MS Office?

Basically unless you can access the MS Account used in the purchase of Office 2013 there's nothing you can do other than contact the original owner.

If purchasing a used PC its of fundamental importance that you have the original software Keys or account used
