Hello-

I have a user that when I tried to enable his vertical scroll bar to be shown under Advanced Options, Display, it was grayed out.  I tried to enable it, but to no avail.  Would this be because I do not have admin rights?

The option is only available if you access the Options dialog box when a document is open (but I'm sure you already know that).

What happens if you start Word in Safe mode? Then is the option available?

Here's how to start in Safe mode: Exit Word if it is currently running. Hold the Windows logo key as you press R; in the Run dialog box, type winword /safe and press Enter.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Office Community.

A quick question before we proceed.

Are you unable to view the vertical scroll or find the option Show vertical scroll bargreyed out when you log in through a different user account?

Let's start Word as an administrator following steps and verify if you're able to view the vertical scroll bar or enable the Show vertical scroll bar option.

  1. Go to the following location:

C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office 15\Office 15 C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office 15\ClentX86 or ClientX64\Root\Office15

  1. Right click on WinWord(.exe) > select Run as administrator and see if it helps.

Reply with the result and I'll be happy to assist you further.

Thank you.
