MySQL ODBC in UTF-8 encoding

Hi,

I'm using Excel 2016 for Mac with a 3-rd party ODBC driver. I'm able to fetch data from mySQL database (all data in UTF-8) but have a problem with Cyrillic characters (they are substituted with some unrecognisable symbols).

The driver vendor tells me the problem is within Excel, since the only encoding it understands is MacRoman. The guys there were helpful though and suggested a solution using a macro, but that seems wrong somehow (not to say it requires a lot of manual work).

Has anyone faced this problem?

Thanks!

I believe UTF-8 encoding is currently under evaluation. however, there is no telling when or even if it will be implemented. Look here, and vote on this and other issue(s) you'd like to see solved:
