OneNote Class Notebook - add multiple students

Good morning,

I am trying to add multiple students to a new Class Notebook. I have tried copying the names from a CSV file and pasting them, but only the first name is pasted.

I know I can do this by creating a group and then adding the group, but I can't add multiple names in a group at one time, either. The teachers at my school are encouraged to use OneNote but I am getting resistance when they have to type in their entire roster. I see that in many OneNote tutorials it says it's possible to paste in a list of names but I can't get it to work. Any advice appreciated!

Thank you for your reply, however you are missing the point here.  When you create a class notebook in the Office 365 app, you are not using the desktop OneNote. It doesn't work like that - the view you get is:

When you choose Add or remove students and choose which class notebook you want to do this in you get:

This is where you put in the list of names - the only way I have found to do this successfully is take my 100 names from my spreadsheet, put them into a word document then separate each one with a colon, one after the other - this is very, very time consuming......

Create a Group within Mail or People e.g. Year 10 students. Populate this group with your students. You can then use the group name during the Add students element of creating a new notebook, or when editing students by using the Add or Remove Students option. I hope this is what you were looking for. I use this to create different notebooks for the same group of students.

    Hello,

Thank you for keeping us posted on this issue.

I suggest you to open OneNote and check if the specific checkbox is checked or not. Open OneNote, click on File> Options> Advanced> check if 'Show Paste Options button when content is pasted' is checked.

Hope this information helps. Please post to us if you need any further assistance with Office.

    Thank you.

I am having the same problem - as the class notebook is created in Office 365, there is no paste special option...

    Hi Alissa,

Welcome and thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.

Are you trying to copy and paste the file from CSV file?

I would suggest you to paste in OneNote using Paste special option in OneNote and check. Under paste special option, click on Keep on Source formatting and verify the results.

Hope this information helps. Please post to us if you need any further assistance with Office products.

    Thank you.
