The open XML file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents

Every time I open a document I've saved, I get this message:

"The open XML file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents

Details: No details avaliable

Location: 2"

(My setup is not in english, so this is my translation. But the message should be something like that)

When I click OK, it says that it found "unreadable" content in X.docx, and asks if I want to restore the document. Then, when I click yes, it restores as is was before, but in a new document (document 1). This shouldn't normally be a problem (except that it is extremely annoying), but I have a lot of tables inserted from Excel, and citations from EndNote in the document. The citations are ok, but I can't edit the data in the tables, because the "linked file" is not available. It seems that this process messes up the link.

Is there a way to repair the document, so I can open the originally saved document without messing up the links between the tables and their excel-file?

Note: I do have the excel file, I was able to open the data before I saved and closed the document.

It's possible. If the file was not edited while on a Flash/USB drive, please post the file to Dropbox or other cloud storage, then post a link here. One of us will have a look and try to repair it.

I have the same problem. I worked on a faculty handbook for a full day and now I'm getting the same message:

The open XML file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents

    Details: No details avaliable

    Location: 2"

Can you help with this? Thank you.

If you edited the file while it was on a USB/Flash drive, then it's probably gone and will have to be re-created.

If you're sure that is not the case, please post the file to Dropbox or other cloud storage, then post a link here and I'll try to repair it. If you put the file on OneDrive, please put it in a Zip archive, as OneDrive doesn't handle corrupted documents well.
