Microsoft Office Update Interrupted!

Hi,

I began an update for my Microsoft 365 University software on my laptop (Windows 10 OS) and unfortunately closed my laptop in mid process, halting the installation of the update at 86%. Since reopening the laptop over an hour ago the install is still at 86% and I can't seem to find a way to restart it.

At the moment, the only dialogue box that comes up states "Office is installing in the background (86%)", there hasn't been any message to say that it was interrupted or unsuccessful due to any errors - yet it also hasn't progressed any further.

I have considered restarting my laptop, but was unsure if this would cause further problems? I've also considered the internet connection, however my internet is working fine and although the speed isn't amazing that didn't seem to have any impact earlier when it seemed to install very quickly. When I open my task manager there are 3 instances of "Microsoft office click-to-run", one instance of "Microsoft office click-to-run client" and one instance of "Microsoft office click-to-run integrator (32 bit)". Would it benefit to end these tasks, or would this do more harm than good?

Apologies if there is a very simple solution to this, I am just hesitant to do the basic troubleshooting techniques (restarting, ending tasks, etc) in case they cause more problems!

If someone can get back to me regarding this I would really appreciate it!!

Thanks :)

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Do you have multiple versions of Office installed in your computer?

Let’s follow the steps mentioned below then try to install:

    Step 1:

Run the fix it or follow the manual steps to remove Office traces completely as explained in the article mentioned below:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

    Step 2:

If issue still persists, start the computer in a clean boot state and verify the result.

Refer to the following for instructions on how to start the computer in a clean boot state.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Ensure to restart the computer in normal mode once troubleshooting is completed.

Clean boot is performed to disable all startup programs and 3rd party services on the machine and check if they are conflicting with the Office program. If so, you may disable the unwanted software those conflict with the suite or get them updated.

Hope the above information helps. Reply with necessary information and the result to help you further.

    Thank you.
