shift + tab does not work using a hardware keyboard in iOS

In Office for iOS (I haven't tested on an iPhone, only on the iPad Pro with the Smart Keyboard), you cannot use the key command shift + tab to go back, such as reversing the indentation of a bullet point on in Word. Using the delete key works for this purpose only sporadically. It's frustrating. Any suggestions?
