i was working on a document all day yesterday on word for ipad, everything was going great. Every time i would stop working on it, it would save and i would pick up right where i had left off. Then late last night i finally finished and i decided to save it because i was going to email it to myself. Then when i tried to open again it gave me a message that says "cannot find file. The location changed since you last opened the file". Someone pls help!! I have no idea whereit might have saved it. I cannot find it on my ipad anywhere.

I just figured it out. It's the pound sign. Remove the pound (#) sign from the file name and any part of the file location, so in your case, "Assignment **#**2-3" should become "Assignment 2-3."

Also, I did get a popup message from OneDrive when I used Word, saying I needed to login to my account.  But, I never use OneDrive.  Did that cause the problem with my local files and DropBox files?

Help... I have the same error message.  The document I was working on is in my Dropbox account.  After writing and editing for several hours, I couldn't save it back to Dropbox.  I tried duplicating it with a new file name.  Still got an error that it couldn't save.  I tried copying and pasting the text into a new Word document and saving it on the iPad. I can't open that either. Both files show up in "Recents"  but I can't open either one.  Where is my document and how do I get it back?

    Hello Mark,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting your query.

Please provide more information before we proceed.

Where exactly are you saving the documents? Are you saving it on OneDrive?

If yes, I suggest you to sign in to onedrive.live.com using browser on iPad, check if you are able to sign in and check if file is present there. If yes, try opening the file from there and check if it open as expected.

Please post back with the updated issue details for further assistance.

    Thank you.
