Dirsync problems - The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed

We made the server running Dirsync a domain controller.  Now the services won't start. I tried to run the dirsync configuration and I get this error:

The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed

I tried to uninstall Dirsync (hoping to upgrade to Azure AD Connect) and I get the same error when I try to uninstall.

I have two DC's -- they are communicating.  Not sure why Dirsync is giving this error.

Any ideas?

I am sorry - I confused the issue.  The 2003 server is phased out.  Both DC's are Windows 2008.  After we phased out (demoted and removed from domain) the Windows 2003 server, we promoted a server running Dirsync to be the 2nd DC.

I will check the errors are you have requested.

    hi jfg1367,

    thanks for the reply.

i understand that there’re two dcs on a windows 2003 and windows 2008. they both are in the root. i assume that the windows 2008 encounters the issue.

the error message has not indicated the exact root cause. we might need to check event viewer.

    a. open event viewer.

    b. expand windows logs, and then expand application.

    c. in the actions pane, click filter current log.

    d. in the event sources box, click to select the directory synchronization check box.

    e. click ok.

    thanks for your help brook.

1 - dirsync was installed and working for several months.  we upgraded to dc last week and it broke it.

2 - we were on a windows 2003 domain.  we promoted a windows 2008 server as a dc.  we demoted and removed the windows 2003 server.  we raised the domain level to windows 2008.  then we promoted the dirysnc server (also windows 2008) so we would have two dcs.  they both should be in the root.

3 - if i try to uninstall -- i don't get the ms .net framework error -- just a simple box with the same message "the trust relationship...."

    Hi JFG1367,

Could you please share with us a screenshot of the error information? To upload the screenshot in the forum, click Use rich formatting and then the Insert/Edit Media icon.

Then please share with us the following information:

    1. Did you firstly installed the DirSync and then upgraded the server to DC?
    2. About these two DCs, is the server the root DC in the domain? And please provide more information.
    3. Could you uninstall the DirSync despite the error information?

    Thanks,

    Brook
