Excel 2016 for Mac error message

I have a spreadsheet that is locked in A4 and narrow margins, and portrait mode. Whenever i try to change any of those, eg from portrait to landscape, from A4 to Letter or from narrow to regular margins, I get an error message: "The number must be between 10 and 400. Try again by entering a number in this range."

Any suggestions as to how I get out of this?

Try to copy the data to a new Excel sheet and check if the problem gets resolved.
