Hi Microsoft team,

I am having trouble opening downloaded documents old formats 1997-2003 or 2007 (power point, excel and word) in office 2016. The message that pops up is: "word experienced an error trying to open the file...

I have tried the open and repair tool (suggested by the help tool) but did not work. I can not have access to the document. It is no9t opened by word.

However, those files (1997-2003 and 2007 versions) are normally opened in office 2007 installed in my older computer.

What should I do once several files that I receive by email is in old office formats and my new computer has office 20016?

Thanks for your help

For documents that you receive by email, you should save them to the local drive and then right click on them in the File Explorer and select Properties and then check the "Unblock" box.  Then use File>Open to open them.

additionally, when I save this old format documents in a pen drive in my old computer, for example, I am able to open them in my new computer using the office 2016. The problem seems to be related only with email downloaded documents...
