Hi -

I am having trouble when i update a "Table" field [cross-reference link to table, caption and nunber only].  when i update the fields, through Ctrl A, F9, a line return is created for each table cross reference (i.e. link moves to next line from mid-line above).  this does not happen for my numbered item x-ref or Figure x-ref.

How do i prevent this? Thank you

When you create a cross-reference to a caption, Word encloses the relevant part (caption label and number in this case) in a hidden bookmark and then inserts a cross-reference to the bookmark. It sounds as if a paragraph mark (¶) has ended up inside the hidden bookmark. Assuming that this affects a relatively small number of cross-references, recreating the references will be the easiest solution.

You were absolutely right!  I was tracking changes in Simple view, and the corrections were getting caught in the wrong position.  Thank you!
