Visio 2007: can't "select custom range" when linking Excel data connection. Says Excel is not installed.

I have Excel 2007 and Visio 2007 (and Outlook 2013 if that makes a difference).

When i try and link data using a spreadsheet in Visio, i can select a file to use, and select a worksheet from that file. But when i try and click "select custom range", I get an error that Excel is not installed. Basically i can import the data but i can't choose what part of the spreadsheet i want to import.

help?

thanks

    Hi,

Do you mind telling us the whole error message when you clicked the "select custom range" option?

I can't reproduce this issue in my environment, but I installed full version of Office 2007 pro and Visio 2007 pro. I suppose this issue might be caused by you did not installed Access, becasue ODBC driver was provided by Access.

    Please try to install this:

    Hi,

I recommend we check the event log when you get the error "Microsoft Excel has stopped working". I'll help us do further troubleshooting.

hi George, thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately i installed that and it still doesn't work.

The complete error message is "Microsoft Excel is not installed. To use this feature, install Excel and try again."

It seems when i click the "select custom range" button, I get a really brief error message for about .25 seconds saying "Microsoft Excel has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem.." and then it shows the error Excel is not installed.

    thanks
