help needed - Approval problem when setting up sharepoint managed navigation in Office 365 practice account

Hi All,

Newcomer to sharepoint/O365 here. I've set up a 365 business premium free trial, so I can have a practice environment to mess around in, and I wanted to explore managed metadata. To do this, I went into the site navigations settings menu in sharepoint, selected managed navigation on both the first two radio button options, created a hub navigation, and hit OK. in response, i got the following message:

Sorry, you don't have access to this page. Awaiting approval. We'll let you know about any updates.

****the thing is, I'm the site collection admin and the global admin of the tenancy, so I don't see how I could be denied access. any ideas as to what has gone wrong or advice on how to proceed would be welcome!

Thanks!

Hi Spike,

Enabling the scripts seemed to fix the problem, I could access managed metadata navigation after that.

Thanks very much for all the help,

Rob

    hi rob,

thanks for your updates. to further investigate this issue, could you confirm the following?

    1. have you enabled the custom script? to check it, please go to sharepoint admin center> settings. turn on custom script as the following shows.

note: the settings related to custom script may take up to 24 hours to take effect.

    1. provide a screenshot of your permission on the site level .

to check the permission on the site level, please follow the steps below:

click ![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/3e443eb8-3659-48d7-bc07-39f22b717544?platform=QnA)> site settings, in the users and permissions section, click site permissions. in the new page, click check permission in the ribbon, input the user’s name and click check now. then the user’s permission in the site level will display in the bottom.

please let me know if you have any updates.

    regards,

    spike

    Hi Robert,

To troubleshoot this issue, I’d like to confirm the following information:

    1. Click the Access requests and invitations option under Users and Permissions of the Site Settings page to see if there’re any requests.
    2. Have you chosen the proper term set to use for navigation? Try changing to another to see if there’s any improvement.
    3. Try another site collection or site to check the outcome. This will help us confirm if this issue is related to the site collection itself.
    4. Create another user and assign global admin role to see if he will meet this issue. With this, we can clarify if this issue is caused by the user account.
    5. If it’s convenient, please capture a full screenshot of the error page for our analysis. To upload screenshots, you can click Use rich formatting and then click the icon of Insert/Edit Media.

If this issue persists more than 24 hours, to investigate this issue, could you provide us with the following information?

    1. The tenant domain. The tenant domain is like: cotoso.onmicrosoft.com
    2. The global admin's account.
    3. The contactable email address.

To protect your privacy, I have sent you a Private Message to ask for the information. Please respond to it via the steps below:

       • Go to the your details section on the right side of the community site.

       • Click Private messages.

       • Click the subject title of the response to read the message.

       • You can reply by using the form that displayed.

       • Click Submit Reply.

    Thanks,

    Kerwin

    hi kerwin,

    to answer your questions:

    1. i looked in that setting and there were requests in there. i was unsure which permission to give myself in there, i tried both site owner and heirarchy manager permissions and neither has fixed the problem.
    2. i've tried different term sets with no success.
    3. i'm afraid i'm out of authorisation to create new site collections. i already had 1 other site collection, but that is a publishing site and already has managed metadata set up.
    4. i tried with a new user and encountered the same problems.
    5. screenshot attached.

    thanks,

    rob
