I cannot get out of the "exit edit text" box note and as a result, cannot edit my text. What to do?

What exactly do you mean by cannot edit my text? Are you referring to the text in the text box?
Does it happens with particular slide?

Copy past the text in the new slide and check if you are able to edit the text.
