Hi team,

When I try to search for any contact (specifically emails) from user's account using Contact Search option in Security & Compliance, i'm able to see the search result and can Preview Seach Result but when it comes to export Results to computer, i cn rexport the file but I cannot open it. I read somewhere that i need .net framework 4.5 or above which i have still i'm not able to open the exported file which is "Microsoft.Office.Client.Discovery.UnifiedExportTool.application"

Here is the Search result:

When i try to open the downloaded file I'm getting following error.

Any idea why I am not able open/run the file.

Thanks a lot for your help

Hi Divyang,

Thanks for the detailed information provided.

I understand the symptom now and let’s move forward with the issue based on these steps.

  1. Like mentioned in the article above, the supported browsers are Internet Explorer 10 and later versions or Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, with the ClickOnce add-in installed. Therefore, I’d like to confirm:
  1. Whether you used IE 10 or later versions during the test. If not, please upgrade the IE browser to the latest version and check the result.
  2. Please also try clearing the browser cache and the InPrivate mode in IE to see the outcome.
  3. For other browsers, please install the ClickOnce Add-in to see if there is any improvement.
  1. Could you please try another network environment (like your home network) to see if the issue persists?

Regards,

Sam

    Hi DivyangPatel,

Based on my test, I could successfully prepare my search results for export and download the search results referring to the step-by-step wizard in this article.

Export search results from the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center

Thus, I’d like to confirm if you also referred to this article to export the search result and whether all the prerequisites mentioned in the article (e.g. Windows version, .NET Framework 4.5, supported browser) were met from your side.

If yes, please provide the following information for further troubleshooting:

    1. By saying ‘I can export the file but I cannot open it’, may I confirm which step you got the error message from? Did you fail to download and install the Microsoft Office 365 eDiscovery Export Tool or open the .pst file which is contained in the exported folder? Some relevant screenshots before you got the error are much appreciated.
    2. If the error occurred when you install the tool, please temporarily disable the antivirus software for the duration of the installation process to see if there is any improvement.
    3. Is this the first time you try to export the search result? Did you ever export some other files without any problem in the past?
    4. Can other administrators who are assigned the Export management role export this file without any problem?
    5. If possible, could you turn to use another desktop to export the result to see if the issue is reproducible?

    Regards,

    Sam
