Excel 2016 Hanging

Some users who are using Excel 2016 are experiencing their Excel hanging. They say that when they click on a cell, the Excel would hang and not do anything. The problem would go away after they wait long enough. I have tried reinstalling Office 2016 and also tried the x64 version. Both have the same issue. The Office is currently installed with the latest updates. I am getting them to open Excel in safe mode just to see if it also happens.

Hi,

Before we proceed, I would require more information to assist you better.

  1. Are you connected to a domain or network?
  2. Do you get any error message when Excel hangs? If yes, what is the complete error message?
  3. Is the issue specific to Excel? What happens with other Office applications?

As you mentioned restart the computer and then open the Excel in Safe Mode and check if it helps.

To do that, press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard. In the Run open box type in ‘Excel /Safe’ and hit ok.

Note: There is a space between Excel and /.

If application safe mode works, try disabling the add-ins associated with Office applications and check.

Hope it helps. Try the suggestion and let us know the result at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.
