You don't mention the version of PPT.

IIRC there was a limit in versions before 2007 on internal links.

Thanks Steve. Looks like you have researched this before problems were encountered by the community.

I have not done VBA and macros before. I shall drink some more coffee, gain courage, and try out the macros.

    Much appreciated.

There's no stated limit to the number of links/actions.  At one point (and to tell the truth I'm not positive we're beyond it yet) there was a limit to the amount of storage space allocated to links.  Since the slide title is part of the link, links to slides with long titles would run you up against the limit faster than links to slides with minimal titles.

A long time back, I wrote a little macro to help with this:

Convert slide titles to shapes to solve hyperlink limit problems

    http://www.pptfaq.com

    /FAQ00683_Convert_slide_titles_to_shapes_to_solve_hyperlink_limit_problems.htm

It's worth trying that (on a COPY of your original presentation please!)

Another thing to watch out for is commas in slide titles; these can cause links to fail.

Yes I remember reading somewhere that there's no significant limit to the number of Slides.

I have many songs to display in a ukulele jamming session. So I have a Menu or Contents page(s) in the front, displaying each song title. An action button brings up the selected song, and of course at the end, another button to bring it back to the Contents pages.

I have considered breaking up, in fact I do break them up into Evergreens, Religious, Carols. But when we're in Evergreens to switch to Religious is not fast enough. So I have refrained. The Evergreens however is getting too large. To break them into Genres: eg Ballads, Pop, Rock, Country, etc will result in constrains in selection.

So I'm checking: (1) is there a stated limit to number of Action Button. (2) Workarounds.

Incidentally, I just found out that since I've run out of Action Button, I tried to Hyperlink the subsequent newly added Titles. It did work. But I'm not sure when the Hyperlink will run out on me.

    Thanks.

I don't know of any such limitation, but then I don't know of many people who've used action buttons on 1200 slides.

It might be worth breaking the show into smaller chunks and using hyperlinks to launch individual pieces.

Can you describe what you're doing and the effect you're after in more detail?  That might help us come up with better suggestions for you.
