Word keeps hanging

Question

My Word keeps hanging every time I try to open it. Is anyone else experiencing this on a regular basis and if so, how did you resolve it?

I get the same outcome with safe mode :-(

I Uninstalled and installed word again but no change 

Then it is probably time for an Office Repair. Unfortunately I have no hint on how you would do that on a Mac.

I am using the latest Office 365 University on a Macbook Pro 2011

OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5 

all the other office applications take a while to start but they don't hang.

It hangs if I double click a document or start it from the dock.

I installed it october of last year, but this problem has been going on for the past 2 weeks.

I havent installed anything new on my Mac, it just seems that everything is slower than usual.

What version of macOS are you using?

What is the update level of your Office installation? (It should be 15.31 or later.)

Is this a new installation? Or is it a new behavior in an installation that previously was working well? If the latter, what has changed recently on your Mac... even if it seems unrelated?

Exactly what steps are you taking: Launching the program from the Dock? Double-clicking a Word document icon?

Do you have the same problem with any of the other Office programs?

Please provide a complete & accurate description of the situation. We have nothing more to go on than what you tell us.

Try starting Word in Safe mode.

Hold down the Ctrl (Cmd) key while starting Word.

This is a diagnostic, not a way to use Word.
