Hi,

I am trying to move a document library from a parent site to a subsite. The library is sat in the parent site as below and only has about 50 files in it.

I need to add it into this subsite:

In IE 11 there isn't the option to use File Explorer as it seems to be greyed out so I have downloaded Chrome in an attempt to do it with this. Are there any other ways of doing this as it's a small library at present..??

Thanks

Hi Darren,

To move only 50 files from the parent site to the subsite, the easiest way is to use file explorer. I notice you are using new experience of the library. Please check if you can find the View in file explore option via the steps in the following screenshot through IE browser. If yes, please try moving the files via File explorer.

Besides the method above, here are some other methods for your reference:

Method1:sync both of the parent library and subsite library to local, and then move files between them.

Method2: save the parent site library as template -> download it to local -> upload to list template gallery ->create a new library using the template in subsite.

(please refer to the To save the library as a template part under set up a default file template when you create a document or form library in this article)

Method3: use content and structure to move files. (you can find it through site settings ->site administration)

Note: we need toactivate the publishing feature in the site collection level before using this method.

Thanks,

Sky Pei

    Hi Darren185,

Please confirm if this document library is in your default teamsite: https://company.sharepoint.com. If yes, to use the save document library as template feature, we need to enable customer script first. Please refer to the To enable or disable scripting from the SharePoint admin center part in this articleto turn on this feature.

Note: it may need to take up to 24 hours for this feature take effect.

If the issue persists, please provide following information for analysis:

1.On the last screenshot you provided (customer information. settings) -> copy the url to notepad -> change the listedit.aspx in the url to savetmpl.aspx -> copy the changed url to the browser to check if you can access the save site as template page.(If you get access denied error, it should be related to the custom script feature)

For example: I change the url from https://company.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/listedit.aspx?List=%7Bf4543fd4-28b9-4591-a47c-18c52dc2350f%7D to https://company.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/savetmpl.aspx?List=%7Bf4543fd4-28b9-4591-a47c-18c52dc2350f%7D

2.Have you ever enabled publishing feature on this site collection/site? Refer to activate the publishing feature

    Thanks,

    Sky Pei
