OneNote 2016 Notebook Template

I want to create a template file for new notebooks so that each new one will be created with specific groups and pages already set up. How do I save a current notebook as a template notebook? I cannot figure out how to do that.

Thans!

If you have a paid Onenote 2016 (not the free one) you can store such a "template" notebook locally by using File, Export, Notebook, ONEPKG-Format.

This file you can open/use in Onenote by double click in Windows explorer.

This response seems to be completely irrelevant to the question asked, which was about how to create a template from an entire notebook, not a page in a notebook.  The article you reference only talks about adding templates to a page. That's not the same thing.   Further, the article referenced regarding saving notebooks is not even worth pointing out, it just says that notebooks aren't saved like other documents; literally that's what it says!  Can Microsoft give some concrete explanation of how to set up a notebook that can be saved and used as a template for other notebooks in the future?  Many of us have repetitive writing tasks for which we need this ability rather than having to take the time to structure a new notebook every time we need to start a new writing project.  Thank you

Bernd,   I took your advice and this works well.  The only thing I'm having trouble with is renaming the new notebook.  It automatically saves it as the name of the template notebook rather than the name I assign it for the project within Onenote.  It seems like my only option is to rename it in explorer.  Any other ideas?  Thanks
