Sharepoint data pointers

Hello All,

I am using sharepoint and have one query.

In sharepoint, I get the option to download a file that i want to refer again and again. Or I will have to search it again if i want to read it.

I don't want to download all the files that i like. So, the better way i find is to bookmark the link in my browser.

Many a times, I just create a folder in one drive and store the downloaded files in it. This eats up storage and results in duplication of data.

I would prefer if there is a possibility of saving the link in onedrive folder.  This would give me a feeling that the file is stored in my directory. But since it is just a pointer, would save one drive storage for me and duplication will be avoided.

Can you please let me know if there is a provision already or is there any plans to have this in future ?

Regards,

Himanshu

    Hi Himanshu,

You can try the following methods to see if they can fulfil your requirement.

In the New mode SharePoint, you can do it by the following steps:

    1.  Click the ellipsis(…) behind the item you want to save, and copy its link.

    2.  Open your OneDrive >click Files in Quick Launch> click New > Link > paste the link and type in the file name. There will be an .url item mapping the file.

In the Classic (Old) mode SharePoint, you can do it by the following steps:

    1.  Click the ellipsis(…) behind the item you want to save > Advanced > click Follow.

    2.  Open your OneDrive, return to Classic mode > click Followed in the Quick Launch, you will see all the files you followed.

If anything is misunderstood, please kindly remind me and post back more information about your detailed requirements so that we can provide further assistance.

    Regards,

    Linda
