Installing software keycode scam

Hi,

I have the same problem. When I put in my product key I was told there was an error and to call 08000988610.

I spoke to some one on a broken line possibly of ethnic origin. The person was polite but back round noise seemed likebusy house rather than call centre. I was politely told the problem was with my Internet connection and that he could fix that. I was asked to grant control of my computer which I reluctantly did. He went through a file of some sort and pointed a Trojan that was on my computer and referred me to Wikipedia in which explained this(at this point I realised it was a con) but was resasured that I called then, there user name etc liked ofical also,  I refused his anti virus package andhe hung up. This followed another call by with help number, scaringly they had my personal details and password on me calling them.

What do I do? What is the best software to remove malware? Have deleted browsing history and changed all passwords as Google Chrome links all my devises and I have online banking. I do think this is some thing Microsoft need to resolve as it's linked to their site when entering the product key since 2016 by the look of it. I am sure Microsoft are not short of tec support to help with this problem in some way, either way any pointers on what to do know would be great.

    Hi Samantha,

Cybercriminals has a lot of ways on how to scam people. They can send fraudulent email messages, call you, setup websites displaying fake messages and phone number to call, or help solve your computer issue by selling antivirus.

To know more about the issue, can you clarify this question:

    • What software are you trying to install that requires a product key?

Meanwhile, check this link on how to download a free security tool. For you reference, you can also check this article on how to avoid or report technical support scams.

We'll be waiting for you response.

Thank you for your reply. May we ask what particular issue you're having issues with? Is it related to the original poster's issue? If so, please try checking the same link again. If it doesn't allow to do so, please provide us with a screenshot of an error message, if there's any.

We're looking forward to your reply.
