Importing Excel Speadsheet Error

I'm semi-competent with Microsoft Access and know how to link excel spreadsheets into an Access database as I've done so successfully hundreds of times in the past. With a recent upgrade to Office 2013, I'm now using Microsoft Access 2013 and have been unable to perform the simple operation of linking an excel spreadsheet into an access database.

I navigate to the External Data tab, press the 'Link to the data source by creating a linked table' radio button and locate my file. After pressing 'OK' I receive an error message that reads "Type mismatch". When I press 'OK' a window pops up entitled 'mx_FrmMain'. The window contains what looks like a table in the center of it that's left justified. When I press 'Next' I receive a message that reads: "The expression you entered refers to an object that is closed or doesn't exist". After pressing 'OK' to this message it brings me back to the mx_FrmMain window; the only way to escape this window is to press 'Cancel'.

Is there something wrong with my version of access? We actually uninstalled and reinstalled the application and it still doesn't work. Any advice / help is greatly appreciated.

Try it on a REALLY SIMPLE Excel file that you created from scratch. Still a problem?

Okay, one issue is *Group* is a reserved word in Access and I would also eliminate the space in the file.  Try changing the name first, if still unsuccessful then remove space from file name.

The name of the 'really simple' excel file was called REALLY SIMPLE FILE.xlsx. The table looked like this:

    Group Amount
    A 1
    B 2
    C 3

I'm not trying to link to a column I'm simply trying to pull the spreadsheet in as a linked table. Thanks.

    Hmm...

-What is the name of the Excel file?

-What are the name of the columns you are trying to link to?

Yep, tried it after making a two column spreadsheet with 3 rows. Problem persists.
